Special Programs

Collegiate Challenge:  Started in 1989, Collegiate Challenge has become one of the largest alternative Spring Break programs in the United States.  Each year, thousands of college students from across the country travel to Habitat affiliates to spend one week building safe, decent and affordable housing with partner families and the community.  Collegiate Challenge is a great way for students to have an impact on the fight to end poverty housing.

Campus Chapters:  Campus Chapters are student-led, student-initiated organizations on a high school or college campus that works with an affiliate to fundraise, educate, advocate and build.

Vacation Bible School:  “Under Construction”, the Habitat for Humanity Vacation Bible School curriculum uses metaphor to help children learn about community and introduces them to the ministry of Habitat for Humanity.  Children can make crafts and gifts to be presented to Habitat homeowner families and can fundraise to help a family in need.

Apostles’ Build:  Oftentimes, churches do not see themselves as large enough or financially strong enough to sponsor a house on their own.  In an Apostles’ Build, 12 churches come together to build a Habitat home.  The 12 raise the money, provide the labor and prayer support to build a home in partnership with each other and the partner family.

Women Building a Legacy:  Women Build empowers women to address the issue of affordable housing and its effects on the health and well-being of children.  It also promotes the involvement of women in the funding and building of Habitat homes.  Individual and groups of women are encouraged to sponsor a Habitat home and work alongside the partner family on the construction of the home.

Building on the Dream:  Our program to mobilize and encourage churches, other faith-based communities, businesses, civic and humanitarian organizations, institutions of learning and ultimately everyone to partner with Habitat to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of challenging and rallying caring people around the world.  On the third Monday in January, Habitat hosts volunteers to work in partnership with each other and the partner families to build Habitat homes and “the beloved community”.

Home Builders Blitz:  In partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, local home builders will participate in a week long blitz build event to complete 1,000 homes throughout the United States in a five-day period in June 2006.  Home builders are encouraged to work with their suppliers and subcontractors to build and deliver the homes at no cost, or the lowest cost possible, to the affiliate and partner family.
